I don't know, has it occurred to anyone that someone in China is dancing with joy over the recent twin disasters?
Just a few weeks ago China was faced with a huge PR disaster - people snatching the bloody torch, the protests forced secret re-routes of the torch's journey... basically it was widespread international protest against China's various sins. The theme was: China under international scrutiny as the Beijing Olympics draws near - How will China Screw Up Now?
Now with the massive earthquake, all that is put behind us, and it's all - what a horrible disaster, how can we help these lovely Chinese people (and mind you, I'm not implying that the Chinese AREN'T lovely), look at all the efforts made by relief workers and the government, oh look, the President even made a trip down. How wonderful of him, not behaving at all like a ruthless Communist leader. We're also praising the wonderful wonderful Chinese government - so brave despite all this tragedy - for, well, basically not trying to hide the earthquake. Indeed, what more could you ask for in a government?
The small group of Chinese capering around with joy over the massive loss of life in the earthquake that is PR gold for China would also be similarly festive over Cyclone Nargis. Hell, Myanmar actually made China look good.
